We are a boutique safari operator based in Harare, Zimbabwe
Driven by our love of discovery, we have been exploring and sharing Africa and the Middle East with clients since 1972. Not only are safaris our business, they’re our passion and our way of life. When we’re not on safari with clients we are researching and planning new ones. When there’s no immediate work to be done we are either on the road scouting new destinations and revisiting favourite ones, or at home base studying our Michelin maps and fixing our beloved fleet of Land Rovers.
Our approach to safaris is not only personalised, it’s hands on and we’re deeply invested in the experiences we create.

We believe our trips reflect our expertise and it is with great pride that we open the world and share the cultures, landscapes and wildlife that so inspire us. We truly love the countries we operate in and are honoured to share them with others.
All our clients have been referred to us by those who either know us or who have travelled with us before. Referrals and returns are the greatest compliment we can receive, and we consider them to be our measure of success.
In fact, most of our trips are planned for repeat customers, some of whom have travelled with us more than fifteen times. It’s not surprising that along the way many of these clients have become good friends.
Having previously partnered with respected agents Explorator, Damarana Safaris, Abercrombie & Kent, Mountain Travel Sobek, Kuoni and Bushbuck Safaris, we are grateful that our small safari company allows us to follow our passions while creating new memories and making new friends at every turn.
We hope you’ll join us.
Chairman and Managing Director
I’m a native of France, and a hitchhiking trip from London to Johannesburg when I was 22 years old turned into a lifelong love of Africa and overland adventure. After buying my first Land Rover in Namibia, I accepted my first paying customers in 1972. Some would say that I’m one of the last great non-African explorers of the continent and that I’ve succeeded in building a unique and illustrious career. One thing I do agree with is that I’m an expert driver and bush mechanic.
The reality is, exploration is my passion and I’ve been incredibly fortunate to make it my way of life. I’ve been in this business since the 1970’s inventing, designing and leading overland trips through North and Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, India and Northern Pakistan.
In addition to owning more than 25 Land Rovers since then I’ve also owned a Catalina flying boat. (For more information please see ‘Our History’.) My preferred mode of travel is overland by Land Rover Defender and I love navigating by the sun and Michelin maps. I speak French, English, Italian and Arabic and my motto in every language is, ‘Of course it can be done’.
The history of the Catalina Safari Company is that of its founder, Pierre Jaunet.
From growing up in Poitiers, France to having travelled more than 3 million kilometres overland across Africa and the Middle East, Pierre has forged a unique path to become an unparalleled expert in overland expeditions across Africa.
